Air Canada Unveils Non-Stop Winter Service to Sapporo, Japan: New Flights Connecting Vancouver, Canada, to Japan’s Ski Paradise – Direct Access to Hokkaido’s Legendary Snow Awaits!

In a landmark move for Canadian travelers, Air Canada has announced its first-ever winter seasonal service to Sapporo, Japan, starting December 2026. This new non-stop route will provide direct flights between Vancouver, Canada, and Sapporo’s Chitose Airport, situated in the heart of Hokkaido, Japan’s premier winter sports and tourism destination. Travelers will now have easy access to Hokkaido’s world-renowned powder snow, the vibrant Sapporo Snow Festival, and the island’s famed hot springs and authentic culinary experiences.

The new winter service comes as Air Canada continues to expand its international network, positioning itself as a leader in connecting Canada to major global destinations. As part of its strategic push into the winter leisure market, this new route offers an excellent option for those seeking a winter vacation filled with skiing, snowboarding, and cultural experiences in Sapporo, Japan.

Beginning in December 2026, Air Canada will operate three flights a week between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Chitose Hokkaido Airport (CTS) in Sapporo. The flights will be serviced by Air Canada’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner, offering Signature Class, Premium Economy, and Economy seating options. This service aims to provide Canadians and international travelers with easy access to Sapporo’s world-class ski resorts, snow festivals, and other winter experiences in Hokkaido.

The flights will operate three times a week from Vancouver to Sapporo, starting on December 17, 2026. The return flight from Sapporo to Vancouver will depart on December 18, 2026, and operate on a regular schedule until March 25, 2027.

The new route underscores Air Canada’s commitment to providing more options for winter travelers looking to explore Japan’s Hokkaido region. As the only non-stop flight from North America to Sapporo, the route connects Canada directly to one of Japan’s most popular winter destinations.

In addition to the skiing and snowboarding, Sapporo is home to the Sapporo Snow Festival, one of the world’s most famous winter festivals, attracting thousands of visitors from around the globe. With direct access to the region, Canadians can now easily experience these iconic events while also taking advantage of Hokkaido’s hot springs, renowned culinary offerings, and the island’s stunning natural landscapes.

For Canadians, particularly those on the West Coast, the direct flight from Vancouver to Sapporo will save more than two hours of travel time compared to flying through other major hubs, such as Tokyo or Seoul. The new service will also make it easier for Canadians to access Hokkaido’s powder snow ski resorts, which are famous for their exceptional quality.

With the launch of this new service, Air Canada reinforces its position as the leading carrier offering the most non-stop flights between Canada and Japan. The addition of Sapporo to the airline’s growing network complements its existing year-round services to Tokyo-Narita and Tokyo-Haneda, and seasonal services to Osaka-Kansai. This increase in air connectivity comes as Japan continues to be a sought-after destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Sapporo’s tourism sector will benefit immensely from the direct flight service, as it makes the region more accessible for Canadians and international visitors. The increase in direct flights from Canada to Sapporo is expected to drive a surge in both tourism and business travel to the region, especially with the winter season approaching.

For Hokkaido, the new route will further bolster its reputation as a premier destination for skiing, snowboarding, and winter tourism, while also allowing for year-round visits. Additionally, Sapporo’s renowned food culture, including ramen, sushi, and seafood, will further appeal to those seeking an authentic Japanese culinary experience.

This new route from Vancouver to Sapporo enhances Air Canada’s already robust network across the Pacific. With more than 45 destinations across Canada, the United States, and Mexico reachable through Vancouver’s YVR hub, the direct flights to Sapporo also provide greater connectivity for travelers heading to other destinations in Asia.

For Sapporo travelers, Air Canada’s Vancouver hub offers easy connections to over 45 destinations, making the route a vital link between Canada and Japan.

The launch of Air Canada’s new non-stop winter service to Sapporo marks a milestone in the airline’s expansion and offers Canadians a new, faster way to access Hokkaido’s ski resorts and winter festivities. This route not only strengthens Air Canada’s network but also enhances the tourism exchange between Canada and Japan, allowing both nations to explore new opportunities in tourism and business collaboration.

With its direct access to Sapporo, Air Canada continues to be a leading player in the global aviation industry, further cementing its position as a primary connector between Canada and Asia.
